Buddy and Lisa came and got everything around here looking great again. Buddy mowed the back pasture making it much easier to tidy up, and that looks just beautiful now!
Guess it's a little hard to see from this distance how much better it looks back there, but hey -- it DOES! |
And while he was mowing, Lisa held Lizzie and talked to her while I finally got around to trying out the clippers on her. I've been putting that off for a couple weeks thinking it was going to be a major operation. As it turned out, she didn't mind being clipped in the least! I think it felt to her like she was being massaged and she LIKED it!
Unfortunately, when I ordered an extra-wide head for those clippers, the only one I saw was a number "10." I didn't realize that it would keep her hair quite that long. But even though she's probably still too warm, she does look ALMOST like a normal horse at this point. Down the road I'll change that clipper head back to the one that came with it originally and try and cut it shorter. But for now - hey . . . she's looking a lot better!
The only reason she's alone in these pictures is because she's closed in her paddock at the front to keep her away from Arthur until she's done being in heat.
As for Arthur, he and Duke are both hanging out at the back of the barn - over in Duke's paddock there at Arthur's favorite sandy spot.
Why they want to lay / stand there in the sun instead of grazing in the shade under the trees in back must be because they want to stay near Lizzie. Wish they'd just go on out. Duke especially. He's going to start having a sunburned nose again very soon. At the moment, though, he just has a nose full of splinters. He's been rubbing his face against the door frame the last few days - not sure why. But I didn't realize he was getting splinters from it until Lisa went to clean his face today and found them there. Guess we need to sand those door frames and get them painted. One more thing for "THE LIST."
You know, I think I remember seeing some sort of rough thing that you install on a post (or a door frame???) that the horses can rub against if they itch for some reason. Think I'll see if I can figure out where I saw that. Obviously Duke would no doubt enjoy that. (And it wouldn't give him splinters!)
