No luck . . .

Drove down to New Iberia to check out another mule today.  I was hoping we'd run into Dave Robicheaux but that didn't happen -- although Jan tells me that James Lee Burke does have a home there in New Iberia, as well as in Montana.

But anyway -- we went down there to check out "Lula Bell," but it turned out she was way too pushy and not well-trained enough for me.  The more mules I look at the more I'm coming to believe that I may need one who's 20-plus.  The guy's teen-age daughter rode Lula Bell around for a while and it was pretty obvious that even she had some problems controlling her from time to time.

That, and the fact that the guy admitted at one point that she HAD thrown him off "just once"!!!  Well, "just once" is once too often for me, that's for sure!

But Jan knows a trainer who's going to check around and see if anyone he knows is thinking of putting a mule up for sale.  And if they do, he will know if it would be appropriate for me - that would so great.

I'm hoping I hear back from the guy with the French Quarter mules, but I imagine it will be a while, and I'm not at all sure that a retired mule from the Quarter would actually be rideable either.  And since they're completely fearless, they may not listen to ME either, actually.  I don't know.

Sigh.  But Jan tells me she was so tired of all the crap she was running into that she was about to stop looking for another horse when she finally came across Digger and Dixie last year so I guess there's still hope.

We'll have to see.

Those prices are huge high. If you can do it, you might want to look closer to this area.

Yes, those prices really ARE incredibly high. If their mule gave me the slightest problem EVER I'd probably be completely bent out of shape after paying that kind of money! ;-D
