I know it hasn't been all that long since I began looking for a nice mule to ride. But the last couple I've looked at haven't been even CLOSE to what I need. I'm a little discouraged.
We went over to Covington yesterday to look at Sippi, but he was (1) as tall as Lizzie, (2) not that docile and not well trained, and (3) not very friendly with horses. Three strikes - he was out.
I was seriously considering checking out mules from the Missouri Mule Company. Of course, the least expensive one I've seen listed on there so far has been $5800. Gulp. But one of their major services is serious mule training -- "boot camp" they call it. So no doubt any mule from them would not only be gaited, but seriously well trained.
One of the ones they have for sale that looks PERFECT to me is Dolly Partton. ;-D But there was no price shown for her so I can't even BEGIN to imagine how much they must be asking for her!
Okay - so time to head over to New Iberia and check out "Lula Belle" today.
She is much smaller - 13.2 hands he said (although owners rarely get that height right, I find). And he says she is ridden every week by his children, his (50-something) mother-in-law, and sometimes by him. And she gets along well with his daughter's thoroughbred who is less than friendly with other horses. And just while I was on the phone with him he came down another $800. He REALLY wants me to come see her. Okay. So I will at least go look at her. Janet is going to go along. I'm really glad to have her with me since she can always tell if there are physical problems that I wouldn't notice.
So - another try today.
