Saw some comments on Facebook last night from folks up in the Dayton area saying things like they were "in their basement." What? Tuned into the Weather Channel on TV and saw a giant red tornado box directly over my daughter's home!! Scared me to death! Tried to call and got no answer. I was sitting there just staring at that weather radar when the phone rang and she said the storm had passed. The roof on the mall down the road from her had been torn off but the storm had not passed over her place. Whew!
Had to laugh when she told me she had locked herself and her dog and cat in her windowless laundry room. For all the years she's lived there, her dog, Sam, had always been absolutely forbidden to go into the kitchen/laundry area. (He isn't allowed so he can't get to her food or the cat's food.) He's a good boy and he took that as "gospel" and would NEVER go in there EVER. So when she led Sam into the laundry room and closed the door during the storm, his mind was completely boggled! Poor guy - he's going to be hopelessly confused for a while now!
But as far as I have discovered, no family or friends have been affected by all this weird weather lately (even those in Joplin) and I am incredibly thankful.
