I am still having a absolutely FINE day! I spent this evening moving furniture -- something I haven't bothered to do in ages. I told Mark that even if he's perfectly healthy, maybe he should tell me he has a problem periodically because when I get really frightened, I also get really really busy and all the chores around the house actually get done! And then when I find out that there IS no problem, I get so happy that I do other things like rearrange the furniture or cook a really cool meal or SOMETHING special. Of course after that I tend to pretty much collapse, but hey -- that's still something that might work well once a year or so.
As for the river, there are patrols driving up and down the roads next the levees constantly, watching for sand boils. Since Morganza Spillway was opened, the river will not be topping the levees, but as the levees become more and more saturated due to the water remaining high for the next few weeks, there will be more and more problems with sand boils. Water will work its way through the saturated levee and begin to "boil" out the other side. If they don't notice it in time and get it dealt with, it will increase in volume and could eventually cause a levee breach. The way they are dealing with them now is either to cover them with sand/limestone, or build a "wall" of sandbags around it and allow enough water to collect to provide enough pressure to stop the flow. But we aren't supposed to have to move out or anything, so I've simply decided to stop thinking about it. I've just stopped watching the news and gone back to living my life day to day. And a fine life it is.
