Terrific day, but boy am I EXHAUSTED! Did a bunch of cleaning up around the house today, then headed over to the barn about 4 or so. I rode Lizzie from about 5:30 until about 7. As you can see below, by the time I got ready to mount up I was about to have a heat stroke! It was almost 90 degrees and grooming her and cleaning out her feet is hard work!
But once I got on it felt really good. There was a nice breeze, and sitting up there and riding around in the shade of all those trees was wonderful! Wish I'd worn make-up, but I didn't know Torri would be taking pictures. Oh well -- at least Mark will know I'm actually riding again anyway.
In the photo below we're riding around the goat pens. She didn't pay the least attention to them. Good girl!
She did really well, actually. She did have a couple of "moments" when she didn't seem to want to do the same thing I wanted to do, but we got past them.
It was a lovely day.
Laura is coming back over to the barn late tomorrow morning with her Gracie girl, and Laura and Torri are going to ride down the power line. I haven't decided if I'm going to go with them or not. It's not that I don't trust Lizzie. But today while we were riding over in the side paddock I got a sudden cramp in one leg. I had to get off immediately and stand up to put pressure on that foot because it was hurting like crazy. If I had been a mile or two down and had to get off, I'm not sure how the heck I'd have gotten back on without a mounting block or a pipe fence handy. And there aren't any pipe fences down that far. On the other hand, the last time a cramp like that happened was probably 4 or 5 months ago, so hopefully it won't happen again all that soon.
I got back on once the cramp eased up, but the toes on that foot have been numb since the cramping happened. I guess I'll decide tomorrow whether to go along once I see if my foot is back to normal in the morning. (Getting old is a real pain -- sometimes literally.)
