Spent yesterday doing the things I normally do on Saturday -- cleaning out all the stalls, cleaning litter boxes and straightening up the back porch where the cats live. I MEANT to straighten up the closet and do the laundry, but hey . . . nobody's perfect! (I'll TRY and get it all done before you get home, dear - I promise!)
As a matter of fact, I did START sorting out the closet and discovered that I have -- you ready? -- TWELVE pair of slacks bought over the past year that need to be hemmed. So I'm going to wash all of them to be sure they've shrunk if they're going to, then take them over to the nice Vietnamese lady who hems things for me next week. Wow! It's going to feel like I have all new clothes!
Went over to feed the horses this morning hoping to ride for a while since it's SO gorgeous this morning. But there wasn't a soul around. But just as I was getting ready to leave, Torri and Daniel drove in with a new round bale for the HayHut. Now the grass in the pasture is plentiful at the moment, but you would have thought the horses were all starving to death. When they drove out into the pasture with the hay in the back, they were immediately surrounded by all the horses. I didn't have my camera handy at that moment, but here they are around the refilled HayHut. Note that Duke (on the left) and Cinnamon (just behind him on the back side) each have appropriated an ENTIRE side while the rest of the horses keep trying to eat out of the remaining two sides -- while keeping a careful eye on those two, who will run them off given the slightest excuse.
Note that some of the horses "get in line" near the hay, while others (including Bug) stand far back and just wait for Duke and Cinnamon to get full and wander off. Bug is particularly good at pretending she has no idea that the hay is there. She grazes without looking that way and very very sloooowly edges toward the hay. Eventually, she will get there without getting run off because they won't notice her.
It's really pretty hard to understand why they can't just share. There are plenty of "windows" in that hay hut for all of them, but try telling Duke and Cinnamon that.
And then there's Lizzie. She's perfectly aware that she is at the bottom of the hierarchy. So where is she? . . .
clear over on the complete opposite end of the pasture "visiting" with the horses in the adjoining pasture.
It's going to be nice when they're all home because our three horses get along incredibly well. Before we got the HayHut our three generally grazed together away from the other horses. Nice.
Talked to Torri and she will be back to ride her horses this evening, so I decided to wait to ride Lizzie until then instead of saddling her up this morning. So I guess I have no excuse -- gotta go clear out that closet and see what else is in there that I've forgotten about! AND pull out and donate all those pants that don't fit me anymore. (If I ever do get smaller again, I'll deserve to buy new ones, right?)
