I checked with my boss, whose Golden Retrievers have enough certificates and awards of all kinds to fill a room, I'm sure, about how to get Boo certified as a therapy dog. He gave me the e-mail address for the director of the LCCOC (Louisiana Capital City Obedience Club) pet therapy program, and I sent her an e-mail inquiry this morning along with these pictures of Boo taken over at LSU the day before I adopted him.
I guess he must have looked pretty gentle, because when she replied to my e-mail, she said, "Your dog is beautiful! . . . I would be glad to meet you and your dog to evaluate him and go along with you to show you how we do our visits." Yippee! With any luck, she might even allow him to go in and visit with the patients since he will no doubt be an absolute sweetheart when they meet. I'm really looking forward to it.
The reason I thought about doing it to begin with was because Boo will come and stand next to us, or our company, or for that matter anyone at all he runs into anywhere, and for as long as they pet him he will stand absolutely still. Perfect for a therapy dog!
