Wonder what life will feel like when I finally get to retire and I don't have to wait for weekends to have days off? Hard to imagine. But in the meantime, it's "hump day" once again! Yippee!
Mark is on his way home from the rig. Yippee!
The dogs are, if not well, at least not seriously ill at this moment. Yippee!
Okay, enough of that.
Since my back and knees have been bothering me some, I decided to try some of those "rocker" shaped shoes. My friend Janet bought herself some "shape ups" a month or two back and she absolutely LOVES the things so I decided to give them a shot. My MBT's arrived yesterday and I wore them to work today. How do they feel? Strange. VERY strange. It's like walking around on 2"-high tennis balls! In order to maintain your balance and walk, you are forced to relax your knees and pelvis. In fact, it feels a little like riding, where you have to relax your muscles and follow the movement of the horse with your hips. But since everything I've read about them says it takes a while to get used to them, I guess it's not unusual to find the feeling very strange at first. It will be well worth the adjustment if they ultimately DO help with back / knee problems as they're advertised to do. I'll let you know.
Left work a bit early yesterday to head over to the barn and finish the paddock clean-up. Lori was there and ended up doing the entire other end of the thing where most of the grass is (the hard part!). I was sooo grateful since my hands were beginning to feel pretty "iffy" after all that raking! But it looks really good. If Al gets rid of all those piles we raked up it'll be really lovely this weekend. (And if he doesn't we'll just think of the piles as obstacles and ride around them!)
And speaking of piles, I had piled up incoming mail at the house over the last week or so without looking at it. (Since I started receiving and paying virtually all our bills online, I tend not to deal with mail on a daily -- or even weekly -- basis any more. ) Anyway, I was tidying up the piles in anticipation of Mark's return and . . . ooops! Seems I had a jury summons I hadn't noticed come in. Luckily it's for this coming Monday and not last Monday!
You'd think getting off work to sit around the courthouse would be a good thing, but I'm not that crazy about it. Most of our Parish ("county") is located on the West side of the Mississippi River. There's just a tiny little bit of land on the East side of the river where our place is located. Which means that to get to the courthouse, which is of course on the other side of the river, I either have to drive into downtown (12 miles), cross the bridge, and drive back down the other side of the river another 12+ miles, or take the ferry boat. I don't like driving my truck onto the ferry because it's hard to see when I have to drive up the levee and back down the other side. When I cross over the top of that levee, I feel like I'm driving off a cliff ! Oh, well -- I'll just make sure I have plenty of books on CD available and make the drive back and forth the long way, I guess. Not that I'll be chosen. Come to think of it, in the dozens of times I've been called for jury duty I've only been chosen to serve once in all these years, so there's probably no need to even worry about it.
