Mark finally got home several hours late yesterday evening after spending a couple HOURS standing in line for one of those "random" drug tests the Coast Guard or MMS or whoever it is sometimes does as the guys come off the crew boat. The fact that they do those tests as they come IN from the rig rather than going OUT makes absolutely no sense to me. If they have a drug problem, wouldn't you think they'd be more likely to test positive after having been home for two weeks than after having been isolated on a rig hundreds of miles offshore??? I guess doing it that way conplies with the letter of the law, but hardly the intent. But I digress.
Instead of resting up this first day home, Mark first headed over to the barn to feed the horses this morning and check all the water troughs (since Mr. Al left for the hospital this AM). Then he came home, rounded up all the dogs and hauled them over to our groomer so Ben could get his spring clip and Niki and Rocky could get baths. Sounds simple, but it's a bit more of a challenge than you might think. It's getting everyone into the car to begin with that's the challenge since Rocky HATES to go anywhere in any vehicle -- he's been convinced that no good can come of it ever since we got him for some reason, and Niki and Ben, while they like to ride, are unable to climb into the car themselves these days, so their 100-plus pound selves have to be lifted in there WITHOUT letting whoever is already in there back out again. Tricky. That had to be done in time for Mark to get to his AM appointment with the foot doctor for a status exam on the foot he injured by stepping on a roofing nail when we were up in Ohio. Then he had to go across town to the feed store to trade in three unused bags of our previous various horse feeds for 6 more bags of that new Strategy Healthy Choice. That stuff is GREAT, by the way. It's low starch / low sugar, but they all absolutely love the stuff! It used to be necessary to put Bug in her stall to feed her and come back later because it always took her way more than an hour to eat. And then she managed to somehow leave most of her supplements in the bottom of the bucket. Now? When we lead her in from the pasture to feed her we have to lead her in circles to keep her from running over us to get to the feed! And she not only polishes it off instantly, but the bucket looks like it just came out of the dishwasher when she's done! Amazing. Great stuff!
Oh, and THEN he's planning to head to the store to pick up all those things I should have picked up myself over the last week or so.
And he cooks!!
What a great husband!
