. . . back to "normal" that is. Well, I'm at work anyway.
But this morning when I went out to let Duke and Arthur out of their stalls before I left for work, it was still only 18 degrees! (Even colder than it was up in Minnesota at the time! Unbelievable!) Anyway, when Arthur headed out of his stall, he stepped out onto a large puddle of ice. When he felt his foot begin to slip he literally "froze" and didn't move at all for the whole rest of the time I was out there clearing out the stalls. Well, since he weighs waaay more than I could possibly assist, I just had to leave him standing there and I went back inside to get ready to leave for work. When I came back out, though, he was out in the back pasture, so he apparently DID finally figure out how to get across all that ice. That's a relief! Glad he didn't end up on his butt!
It's supposed to go up into the mid-50's this afternoon and the 60's tomorrow and the 70's (with pouring rain!) on Saturday. I'll tell you what, I've always HATED all that mud in their paddocks, but come to think of it, mud is definitely better than ice!!! But we WILL be updating everything by next winter to prevent ice AND mud formation. I'll tell you what -- if it weren't for Duke and Arthur, we would no doubt be sitting in the house all day every day -- and getting older faster. So aggravating as all the changes are that we have on "THE LIST," they are probably keeping us both functioning for much longer than we otherwise would be!

Haven't heard a word from the New Orleans rescue group about Bettie in a week - since they weren't able to make it up here with her last Friday. Mark suggested that I just start looking for a puppy instead, but I really do want to go ahead and get Bettie. Joey definitely does need a pal, and preferably a grown one. Both Rocky and Boo are getting to the point where they want nothing to do with him. Both of them are having trouble getting around as a result of their arthritis - maybe because it's so darned cold outside and they aren't getting as much exercise as they normally do when it's warm. Boo has even decided to hang out inside Joey's crate so Joey can't get to him to harass him! He goes in there to sleep a lot of the time lately.
And when Rocky is feeling "stiff" and Joey runs over to him to try and get him to play he just growls loudly at him. I can pretty much translate that as "Leave me the h--- alone, you little bozo!" Poor Joey. Bet he's going to LOVE having Bettie hang out with him!
