Last weekend was really nice -- except for calls from Mark. Those were pretty darned depressing. He was feeling so sick he couldn't even talk without hacking and coughing. Poor guy! But he sounds a LOT better now that he's home (in the middle of the night last night). Great! When it's time to come home is a FINE time for him to start feeling better!!
Had a nice lunch over at Outback with Jan and Mike Sunday. She brought me a gorgeous bowl, from Eastern Europe, I think -- can't remember the country. Anyway, her mom decided to give it away when she was up visiting her last week so she suggested she bring it to me since it's in those aqua and blue colors that I love so much. So it's sitting on our coffee table now. Of course, I don't know what I should put in there, but hey . . . it looks really good there so what the heck. Empty is fine.
Got an interesting e-mail from Jan yesterday saying she wants one of these horses who run in gait. You have GOT to check this out! -- it is absolutely amazing that they can go that fast while still gaiting!!! (If that were Duke, he'd be throwing me off completely if he were moving that fast -- even though he DOES gait at his normal speeds.)
Anyway -- watch the riders' heads as they ride by that building and you can see that those horses simply do NOT make riders bounce up and down like any "regular" horse would, even at "full speed ahead." Amazing.
Of course, as for me, if I were to choose any horse in the world, I would want one who would absolutely REFUSE to go faster than a nice slow jog. ;-D
I'm still visiting the physical therapist 2 or 3 days a week, but he is really really helping me! I've decided NOT to have surgery as I intended to do later this year after all. Although he can't "repair" the torn tendon, he has somehow managed to increase the movement of my right arm to the point where I can actually groom the horses again these days! In fact, grooming them isn't all that different from the exercises he makes me do while I'm in therapy! One of them involves standing up against a wall, raising my arm while holding a small weighted ball and throwing it against the wall for several short time periods. Well, what that requires isn't very different at all from reaching up and brushing Duke's back -- he's enough higher than I am that I have to raise my arm all the way up to do that, too. Great therapy! (And he loves it, too!)
Wonder if Vickie and John will be coming down for Thanksgiving this year? I know they'll be here for Christmas, but I don't know about Thanksgiving. I hope so, though. John's brother Mike called me last weekend to ask about the property for sale across the road from us. He wants to live over there instead of in town, and that would be particularly terrific for him once his two brothers get their houses built next door. But I'm a bit concerned. First of all, those properties across the road require a minimum of 2500 square feet, and Mike is a single, not-very-people-oriented guy. He would have no use for a house that huge. And second, I'd hate to see him wait for them to move back to Louisiana. He doesn't seem too well. When I took the papers over to him with the realtor's name and property rules, he was obviously medicated. He said he wasn't allowed to drive and I'm sure that's why. When that happened a couple months back, John stayed over there with him, but yesterday he had no one there to keep an eye on him. He really does need to be over here - or close to someone in the family anyway. Well, once they get back from Europe, I guess I'll give Vickie and John a call and let them know he's having problems again. I wonder if either John or Bruce would consider putting up a small place behind where their house will go for him to live in? He could probably take care of their property while they're still living elsewhere if he were living there now. Hmmm.
Well time to get to work. I leave early today for a therapy session. Looking forward to getting off on what's supposed to be a lovely day!
