Sigh -- that looong weekend is just about over . . .

and it's pouring down rain out there.  Poor horses are going to be stuck inside their paddocks for another few days, probably.  Not that they seem to mind anymore - especially Lizzie.
Got all kinds of new "stuff" for them this weekend, but most of it is going to have to wait until these storms have gone by -- mid-week probably.  We did get one of those "VeruGreen BugPellents" hung up in the barn:
Since they say they need to be at least 6 feet from an open door, we just hung one in the center of the barn for now to see if that works.  We don't really have flies out there to speak of, but come evening we definitely DO have mosquitoes!  Too bad the ad doesn't mention wasps though, because those are the things I'd MOST like to be rid of.  The darned things scare me to death!  And they are pretty much everywhere.  The only thing we've ever done to drive them off was put moth balls up in the isolated attic space above our (unscreened) front porch.  It's been two years since then and we are just now beginning to see them out there again so that definitely worked.  But I can't use moth balls in the barn -- you wouldn't want ANYTHING live to breath that stuff in.  So I'm HOPING that that BugPellent has some effect on them.  I'm thinking maybe I'll hang one of them on the front porch, too, just to see . . .  There are no chemicals in those things and they smell just WONDERFUL so what the heck . . . might as well try it out.
Then I also ordered some Ultra-Shield EX.  It's a fly spray that doesn't just repel flies, ticks and mosquitoes, it KILLS them once they touch it.   As I said, we really don't have much of anything inside the barn except those evening mosquitoes, but when I watch the horses out in the pasture they are invariably waving their tails and (in Lizzie's case particularly) shivering their skin to chase off whatever-the-heck that is on them out there.  So I thought I'd try the Ultra Shield EX since it's supposed to  last a couple WEEKS even if they get rained on!    We'll see.
Oh - and while I was at it, I ordered each horse one of those "Twist-n-Mist" things.  There are water lines in each of their stalls that we used to use for automatic waterers, but we disconnected those because by using plain old 5-gallon buckets, it's easier to see how much they're drinking, and much easier to keep the buckets clean then those automatic watering containers.  So those no-longer-in-use water lines are perfectly accessible for those "Twist-n-Mist" things.  What the heck -- they were incredibly cheap and even if those sprays aren't super-fine mists, Lizzie will love it anyway.  And their stalls have vinyl liners and floor grids that allow water (and pee!) to drain out immediately.  So it won't really matter how fine the mist is -- as long as it will spray far enough out the be of some help to an animal a whole bunch larger than a dog!

Oh, and another thing that came yesterday (yep -- I got into a major order job there one day last week!) that I hadn't tried before was an odd combination of sweat scraper and shedding tool.  Should be great for Lizzie, I hope.  Duke and Arthur shed come spring.  Lizzie sheds continually all year long!  So it should work well after her baths.

So pretty much everything I ordered has arrived -- at least I think so.  As I said to a friend over the weekend, all those packages I get are like Christmas presents because I never remember what-the-heck I ordered!!

And speaking of my currently-terrible memory, those new Juvenon meds that are supposed to help rejuvenate your memory ALSO arrived this weekend.  Can't WAIT to give those a shot.  They say it takes 4 to 7 weeks to completely kick in, so . . . cross your fingers for me and we'll see if I can remember your name again by September!
