Oren

Yesterday Mark's sister Judy found her husband, Oren, unresponsive and called an ambulance.  They attempted to save him at the hospital, but he never regained consciousness.  His life support was removed last night after their priest visited.

Here are some photos that their daughter, Christine, posted online:

They haven't decided yet when the funeral will be, but Mark's sister Vickie lives in Washington, DC, so the storm is a problem.  And Mark is offshore for another eight days.  So I'm not sure how things will go.  I'm really glad that Christine is living back over in Lafayette now - close to Judy in Opelousas.  And Judy's son John lives nearby as well.  Good that she won't have to be alone.

I know Oren has had health problems for a while now.  But knowing your husband has problems and being prepared for his death are certainly far different things.  Poor Judy.

UPDATE:  Mark will be coming home from offshore tomorrow for the wake and the funeral, then returning to the rig on Friday.  Vickie and John are on their way down from DC as we speak.  Not sure how crowded Judy's place will be.  I'm sure they will stay with her over in Opelousas if there's room, but if there isn't they're always welcome at our house -- especially since they'll be living next door in a few more years!
