Well, it turned out that Duke did have some points on his teeth that might have been rubbing against his cheek, as well as one tooth that apparently had broken horizontally. Not sure how that happened -- he may have bitten down on a rock or something. But other than that, the vet didn't find anything that might have caused the problem when he was ridden last weekend. So this weekend he WILL get ridden again -- and he better behave!
He's going to need to have his teeth examined every six months for a while - until that top tooth grows out even with the rest of the teeth again. In the meantime, he will need to have the bottom tooth just below the broken one kept filed down to keep him from developing that "wave" thing. But other than that, he's perfectly healthy.
And Lizzie is actually doing quite well, too! Louisiana law requires that horses be micro-chipped or tattooed or branded in order for them to be positively identified on their Coggins paperwork. But somehow or other, Lizzie had NO identification. How she got through 20 years without any ID, I don't know. And oddly enough, she got a Coggins right before she came down here from North Louisiana, so I have no idea how the vet managed to do the Coggins without any legal identification. But Ann micro-chipped her today, so she's ID'd now anyway.
Well, Mark is back from the grocery now, so it's time for me to go make up that layered salad for tomorrow, as well as try making a "pumpkin/pecan" pie. (If it isn't as good as it sounds like it will be, we'll just leave it home!)
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
