Lovely Thanksgiving

We went out to Janet and Mike's place and had Thanksgiving dinner with them and Mike's brother and his Mom.
Mike's Mom - such a sweetie.
It was an amazing meal and I ate WAY too much of it - as usual!  Whew!   Mike made the turkey this year in a REALLY different way - oven temperature of 475 degrees for only a couple hours!  Imagine - two hours to cook a really enormous turkey.  Amazing.

Had a nice surprise when we arrived, too.  Up until now, it's always been necessary to call them up as we drove in so they could open the electronic gate into their back driveway (where the truck is parked below).  As we drove up yesterday, though, there was a brand new circular drive in the FRONT of their house.  It's not usable quite yet because the concrete portions aren't completely dry yet, but next time we go out we'll be able to just drive up to the front door!

LOVE those curved front steps.

What was most surprising was how that huge front yard looks even LARGER now that the driveway and landscape plants have been added.

I didn't take any pictures in that direction, unfortunately, but there's still a LOT of space - probably a good acre - between that new driveway and their enormous pond at the front of the property.

All those crape myrtles, magnolias, azaleas, camellias, knockout roses, and ginger plants look wonderful even though they were JUST planted.  By spring the place is obviously going to be absolutely GORGEOUS!

And the view from the front porch is wonderful, too.

After dinner we all went out and kicked back on their back covered patio where we could see all their horses grazing around us.  Lovely.
This picture was taken a few months back when we were there and Mike was cooking out, but that's where we went after dinner this time, as well.  ALWAYS a fine spot!

When they bought the place, there was a hot tub under that roof, but since they've removed that we often sit out there with the horses always close by -- sometimes VERY close by when they let a few of them out into the main yard.  Then they're grazing right next to the deck.  Love it!
