We had an unexpected (and unpredicted by the weather guys!) storm last night-- lots and LOTS of lightening. Really scary. I went out to the barn and tried to call the horses to come inside and away from those trees and the lightning, but they wouldn't answer my calls. And I couldn't go out into the pasture to get them because the land isn't level and I knew if I happened to step into a low spot with my back like it is, I would fall and have a lot of trouble getting back up with nothing to hold onto. So I finally gave up and came back in the house pretty upset. After a little while, I calmed down and went back downstairs and - no Mark. Saw that the front door was ajar, so I went back out to the barn and it turned out he had gone out in that storm and found the horses (they were hiding behind the cottage) and brought them back up into the barn. I was so relieved! What a guy! I NEVER would have asked him to go do that -- I would have been afraid HE would have gotten hit by all that lightning. But once it was done, I was really REALLY relieved that both he AND the horses were all just fine.
And that storm cooled things off enough that I got to sleep out on the screened porch last night, too. I love sleeping out there during a storm. It's like one of those sleep sounds you can get on CD -- but the real thing! And it was such a relief to know the horses were inside in a nice, dry, comfy place as well.
