Surgery today . . .

Well, Joey got checked in over at LSU for his surgery at 7:45 this morning.

It was interesting this morning when I got ready to put him in the truck.   He's gone to therapy on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the last year and he absolutely LOVES it!  I've been pretty sure he knows what day is what because if there's a holiday or something and he doesn't get to go on one of those days he gets really upset when I go off to work without taking him along.  But today (Thursday) really proved he knows what day is what.  On therapy days the moment he hears me coming he will be at the door jumping up and down anxious to get out there and jump into the truck.  But today when I went to get him he was still laying in his bed.  I called him several times and he just looked up at me like "Why should I get up when it's not a therapy day?"   I finally had to go get his leash and when he saw that he was reassured that he would indeed get to go somewhere so he got up.  But it's amazing that he actually knew it wasn't a Monday, Wednesday or Friday!

Anyway, he'll be having his surgery sometime before noon -- at least the girl who checked him in said that's when she THOUGHT it would be.  Whenever it is, they said they would call me as soon as it's over.  In the meantime, I sure wish I'd  brought some Prevacid with me!  My stomach is really upset.  Guess I'm a little more worried about him than I thought I would be - even with Dr. Saile doing the surgery.  And I'm not going to be able to take him home until tomorrow afternoon.  I guess it's a good thing for him that he will be there with be someone keeping an eye on him (and keeping him on pain meds) for that first 24 hours.  On the other hand, I would feel better personally if he could be home with me!

Well, the horses will be happy about that arrangement anyway  -- they'll probably all be getting groomed tonight so I can focus my attention on them and not just sit around worrying all evening about Joey.
