Okay, I admit it . . . I'm worried

After making our entire place completely immaculate and tidying up the barn, Mark has gone back to work. But he’s supposed to have a heart catheterization done on Friday after he comes home because he “might” have a blockage of some sort in one artery. Or maybe that cardiologist (who neither of us likes) has come up with that as yet another income source. The guy acts like he owns Mark and can order him to do whatever he likes without explanation.  I've suggested to Mark that he have the guy send the results of all those tests he’s already done to another doctor for a second opinion - and a discussion of the results. I’ve been investigating that heart cath thing, and “Death, myocardial infarction, stroke, serious ventricular arrhythmia, and major vascular complications each occur in less than 1% of patients undergoing catheterization” ("each"?? . . . does that make the total 5%???), but even 1% is still way more than “0" so I’d like him to be sure that’s really a necessary procedure before having it done.

So I guess I’ll spend the next couple weeks worrying about it, but in the end, it’ll be up to Mark, of course, to decide what he’s going to do.   We’ll see.

And then there’s Joey.  I finally decided to let LSU do his knee surgery after all (for many times the cost).  But people who know about these things, say when it comes to orthopedic surgery, Dr. Saile is the best.  I talked to our regular vet, Craig, about it several times, and although he hasn’t done that many of them (and all the ones he’s done have been on little bitty dogs, not 70-lb ones), he was still willing to do it if I wanted him to.  (We have, after all, been friends for 30+ years!)  But one of his comments along the way was that “the surgery really isn’t all that dangerous – dogs do fine on three legs when they have to.”  Now I know that was just another instance of Craig's typical deadpan humor -- which I generally love --  but I think it just MAY have given me pause this time!

Anyway, in the end I decided I’d rather have Dr. Saile do the surgery. I’m still concerned about the result, but I’m sure she’ll do a fine job.   So Joey is over there having his lab work and radiographs done today.  Then the surgery will be tomorrow.  Gulp.  I cannot WAIT for the weekend when this is  all over.
