Well, Dr. Wignall called on behalf of Dr. Saile (who is apparently still in another surgery), to say that Joey's surgery went well. He said his actual joint (the bone) was less impaired than expected, but he had a loose cruciate ligament and tendons that were allowing the knee to slip out of joint, so Dr. Saile worked on the cruciate ligament and the tendons more than the bones and I'm told he should be fine now. But someone else will be calling later this afternoon after he wakes up from the anesthesia to tell me more about it and let me know how he's doing.
At first I was relieved to hear that he didn't have to have as invasive a surgery on his leg bones as expected, but when I think about it, it seems like it's quite possible that having had the ligament and tendons adjusted may be MORE painful than bone surgery. I'll have to ask about that when they call again.
He does still have to stay overnight tonight until they have a chance to start him on pain meds so they can get the dosage set correctly. But I think I just may leave work early tomorrow and go take him home early in the afternoon if they allow that. Poor little guy!
