Let Boo out first this morning, then went out to feed the horses, then I fed Joey, so it was a while before I let him back in.
Right after that, I put Joey on his leash and was headed outside with him when I saw something MOVE on the floor next to the bed out there on the porch. It was a bird! A big one! And it was just sitting there on the floor like it was in shock. Boo must have grabbed it and carried it inside through the dog door because there is absolutely no way it could have gotten in there itself. (Just goes to show just HOW fast Boo can be.) The bird didn't appear to have any injuries, but it wasn't moving around either -- just sitting there breathing really fast and hard. So I slipped a magazine under it and a giant dog bowl over it and carried it outside and put it down behind the bushes outside the porch. I hope it gets over the shock and goes away by the time I get home tonight. (But Boo and I are definitely going to have to have a serious conversation before he goes back out there this evening!)
I always found it hard to believe Boo could have killed those goats his previous owner had, but I guess he does have a "hunter streak" in him after all. Thank goodness he actually seems to like cats anyway, or they'd no doubt all be history since they tend to rub up against him and walk under him when he goes through their part of the porch on his way out. But after today, I'm glad they've never been in the same room with him unsupervised!
Hmm. Maybe Boo doesn't just RESEMBLE a wolf . . . maybe he's actually related to one.
