Back to work

Nice weekend.  Janet and I left the guys at home and went shopping at the Western store and then stopped off at a furniture store on the way home (I'm trying to find a comfy headboard-- does anyone actually MAKE any???).

I FINALLY found a hat I actually love down at Sacs.  I've been looking for one for ages but I always thought I looked pretty silly in every western hat I've ever tried on.  (Having incredibly short hair doesn't do much for you when it comes to finding a flattering hat, let me tell you.)

This one isn't exactly western, though.  It's an Outback Trading Company Aussie hat called (don't laugh) "grizzly."   I know, I know - that definitely sounds like it's meant for guys, but it fits me so what the heck!  I still think it looks pretty good on me, amazingly enough.  Its look is just "unkempt" enough to be appropriate for me!   I love the thing!

Maybe I'll get Mark to take a picture tonight.  It's one of those oil skin hats with a chin tie (they call it a "stampede string" -- smile) so it will stay on if you wear it riding in the rain.  Plus it's got a UV rating of 50 to keep the sun off my face -- something I really need as pale as I am.  My skin is really sun-sensitive, expecially considering how little time as I've spent outside in my entire life -- virtually NONE before we got the horses.

It's been really cold and miserable around here since yesterday, but nothing compared to Shreveport and the areas a little north of here.  That storm band passed just above us.  I heard they got 10 INCHES of snow over in MIssissippi yesterday.  Good grief!

But the horses are all inside with stalls full of hay and the dogs are happily ensconsed in front of the fireplaces.  Too bad I had to go out to work today.  But I'm going to go home tonight and make a giant pot of chili.  I generally get the urge to do that maybe once a year, but then I make so much that we can freeze a dozen containers of the stuff!  Ummm.  Can't wait to get home and get started.

Thanks. I guess I should have let it go at that ad photo, though. Mark said I should remove those "self-portraits" I posted later - that they make me look crazy (even more crazy than I actually am, apparently).
