Mark FINALLY made it home yesterday afternoon. Because they moved the rig a few hundred miles while he was on duty, they came back in to a different port than they left from. Then they all had to be driven 6 or 7 hours back to the original port so they could pick up their cars. That meant Mark passed within a few miles of the house on his way over to pick up his car, but it was hours and hours after that before he actually got home. Now THAT had to be frustrating.
But now we're back to "normal" . . . at least for now, and looking forward to the weekend.
LSU Vet School is having an open house this weekend that will include a parade of equine breeds. I'm all too familiar with the layout of the vet school, so the open house part is not appealing, but I WOULD like to go see what sorts of exotic horse breeds belong to local folks. Torri is going to find out what time the "parade" is supposed to be. If it fits into our day, either Mark and I, or Mike, Janet, Mark and I, will go by there and watch the breed parade.
Mike and Janet are coming over sometime on Saturday for a barbecue. While the guys cook, Janet and I are going to run down to Sacs to return a saddle she bought there that turned out not to work for her new walking horse, Sam. She's gotten saddles for both of their new horses from Crest Ridge now - the outfit that made Mark's saddle. Finding one to fit really broad but REALLY short-backed Duke, but large enough for Mark was pretty tricky! But their customer service is really good at helping to fit "unique" horses, so I'm hoping the saddles Janet got from them will work. We'll see.
Joey is happily back at therapy this morning. I don't know how long Jennifer is going to put up with him, but I know he is going to be SOOO disappointed when he can't go there anymore. When I take him in, he races over to "his" cage and climbs in and throws himself down on the sheepskin they keep in there. He absolutely loves the place.
Oh - speaking of Joey . . . we've been keeping Joey and Rocky separate from Boo because Rocky insists on growling and harassing Boo. And although Boo never seems to react to that, considering how much larger Boo is -- and how effective he no doubt is at self-defense (having killed all those goats) --we just didn't feel like chancing it. But last night when I started getting ready for bed, I let Joey and Rocky out. When I finished getting ready, about 15 or 20 minutes later, and went to let them back in, all THREE dogs were standing there at the door! Apparently Mark had let Boo out before HE went to bed and I hadn't noticed that he wasn't inside.
Don't know what all went on out there, but Boo must have really impressed Joey in some way, because the moment I opened the door, Joey RACED inside. Normally, Rocky comes in immediately and I have to call Joey several times before he shows up. Not this time. Joey seemed really glad to get back inside with me!
Rocky stayed outside, all stiff and trying to put his neck over Boo's in a dominance position (not that simple, given that he's inches shorter than Boo!) but Boo was just standing there wagging his tail and "smiling" -- ignoring Rocky completely. Not sure how things were going before I came on the scene (Rocky seems to be much more aggressive when anyone is near me than if I'm not there), but given that no one had apparently been fighting last night, I guess it's safe to assume there aren't going to be any deaths in the family when they're all out together. That's a huge relief. But I'm still going to keep Boo separate from Rocky and "Bullwinkle" most of the time, I think. Boo deserves a little more peace and quiet than he can have if they're around.
