Moving right along

When I got home today I decided to put those corner cabinets in place and see if they would, in fact, look decent there in the dining room.  Well, they actually make the dining room look way larger than it did before.  And all those cookbooks are a lot easier to get to in those than they were in that white cabinet because it had all those posts in the front.  Big books were really hard to get in and out of there.  These  are so much better.

Of course, I probably don't need to leave those containers of ashes in that one on the right -- probably not appropriate in a dining room -- but they happened to be there so that's where they're staying for now.  (That huge one is Ladybug.)

I think I'm going to need a much large area rug now, too - and I'll be able to put those other 2 chairs back around that table!

With a great deal of effort, I got that white cabinet that used to be in there emptied out and ready to go upstairs to the larger guest bath.

This is that cabinet I used to keep the cookbooks in -
you can see why it was hard to get them in and out!

But I think it'll remain there at the bottom of the stairs until "someone" shows up who can help me carry it up there.  Or, I may try and do it myself - but another day.  (I've had enough for today.)   But it DOES come apart so I can probably drag the top and bottom up there separately.

Vickie and Bruce will be meeting with our local attorney over here on Thursday to get that formal Purchase Agreement signed, then Vickie is going back up to DC on Friday.  Judy doesn't need any help at the moment since she's in the hospital, so Vickie plans to come back down in August when Judy is supposed to go home.

Oh - I e-mailed the guy I bought those cabinets from this morning and asked if he would build me a blanket chest to put in place of that built-in window seat that we plan to remove, and he said he definitely would!  Excellent!   (But I haven't gotten a price yet.  I have to give him the specifics of what I want first.  But I have high hopes that he will be reasonable, given the price I paid for those corner cabinets.)

What I want to do is take that tacky old window seat out and just leave that area in front of the window between the two closets open.  That way if I can get a movable chest built that's maybe a foot narrower than the space between those closets, then I can either use it there as a virtual window seat, OR I can put it at the bottom of the bed and put a chair and side table over by the window.  I think that would be a fine, bright place to sit and read.  And if I have an upholstered top put on the chest, then I can throw a dog blanket over it and it won't slide off and the top will be protected.  (Joey doesn't actually EAT cushions any more - honest!  That picture was taken a couple years ago when he was less than a year old.)  Besides, it's going to be on wheels, so Joey probably won't try to jump up on it more than once!

I'm thinking it might be good to install a marble window sill once that window seat is gone so the dogs won't be able to chew on it or scratch it when they jump up to see who's on the porch.  It's true you don't see that very often down here, but most of the houses in Pennsylvania had marble window sills when I was a kid.  Of course that was a lot of years ago and windows weren't double insulated so dampness always ran down them and made the sills rot if they were wood back then.  And people liked to have super-sized sills to set plants on, too, so they tended to be 6 or 8" deep as well.  At any rate, it's obviously not difficult to make a marble window sill so that's what we'll try to get done, at least for that room - and maybe the dining room, as well.

Okay - time to quit worrying about the decor and go to bed so I can go to work early and then leave work early to meet the vet here at 3.
