Well, this morning Lizzie was still just fine. A bit pissed off that I hadn't turned her out last night, but other than that . . . no foaming at the mouth anymore today anyway.
I'm wondering if she might have accidentally gotten a tiny toad in her mouth! I remember now that some years ago one of my dogs ate a toad and he foamed at the mouth for a whole day! And when I was cleaning up Lizzie's stall a few days ago, I chased a couple of tiny TINY little toads (less than an inch tall) out of there. They were hanging out behind her water buckets and her hay container. So maybe she accidentally ate one somehow. I'll have to ask the vet if that could be it.
I did call the vet this morning even though Lizzie seems fine now. She's going to come out on Tuesday afternoon and check out her teeth and bring me some eye meds to try and clear up that eye discharge. I ordered some Vetericyn horse eye drops online, but it hasn't come yet and Lizzie HATES to have the liquid Vetericyn sprayed in her eyes (can't blame her for that), so if LSU has something else that may work that'll be great. If it doesn't work, they may need to clear out those lines that runs from her nose up to her eyes or do some more detailed eye exams - I don't know. But I want to try and clear it up some simple way first. I'd hate to have to have her anesthetized unless it's absolutely necessary -- and I'm sure she'd have to be for them to open up that connection or do any serious eye exams.
I remember back when they anesthetized Ladybug to operate on her ear, they also cleared out that line while she was out. They injected saline at the opening inside her nose and it ran out her eye as if she were sobbing. Sure looked strange. But it definitely stopped her eye discharge.
I got in to work this morning at 7:30 so I'll get to go home at 3:30 this afternoon. But then I get to spend the rest of the afternoon cleaning up the house. Vickie got back down to Louisiana yesterday. She's over in Opelousas with Judy right now, but she plans to come over this weekend since Bruce will be coming over from Mississippi to visit with the neighbors who are selling that property next door to us that he and John are thinking of buying. I was really excited to hear that. I hadn't heard anything lately about it and I wasn't sure they were actually still considering it. Hey -- I'd really love for them all to live next door to us!
