And the weekend begins . . .

When Zoilo came yesterday to trim the horses we decided to hold off on Arthur's feet until he's over at Zoilo's place.   While he's there, Zoilo will take a lot more time and get him used to having his feet picked up.

But while he was here, Zoilo did put a more fitted halter AND a lead rope on Arthur  though, and told me to just leave the lead rope on (?) so  he would learn NOT to try and run away after he steps on it a couple times.  Well, that part worked.

But Arthur and Duke got together to remove each other's halters!  (I wondered how the heck they were getting them off so quickly!)

I  left Arthur and Lizzie closed in their paddocks after Zoilo left yesterday and  Duke had access to the back pasture so I figured they'd leave each other alone.  But did he go out there?  Noooooo.  Instead he and Arthur stood there next to each other at the fence between their paddocks and chewed on each other's halters!  Well, I took Duke's off, and given how much sturdier the halter Arthur is wearing at the moment is from those break-aways I usually use, I decided not to  worry about it.  He only had to keep it on for one night.  We're going to drive Arthur up to Zoilo's today.

Well, I slept out on the porch last night again, and around 6 this morning I heard Arthur start screaming bloody murder.  Yikes!  I jumped out of bed and raced out there but in fact he deserved what he was getting!  He wanted Duke to take his halter off of him so he had kept sticking his head over the fence into Duke's face and Duke would bite down on it and pull.  But now Duke had taken hold of his LEAD ROPE instead and was pulling on it like crazy and Arthur was  jammed up against the fence hollering and carrying on!  Once I got done rolling on the floor, I made Duke drop the thing and brought Arthur inside his stall and tied him in there until after breakfast.  Once they're done eating, I'll turn Duke back out into the back pasture and CLOSE his gate to keep him out there.  I guess they could still get together at the fence at the back of Arthur's paddock, but we'll hope that doesn't happen.  We'll be leaving in just a couple hours so I hope he has sense enough to stay away from Duke that long.

Silly boy.

Right now Mark is over at the hospital visiting with Judy (I just can't bring myself to go over there).  When he gets back, we'll head over to Jan and Mike's place and either pick them both up and go on to Zoilo's, or drop Mark off to visit with Mike while Jan and I go on up to Kentwood.  Whatever.  Then once we get back, we'll probably all go eat somewhere or other.

THEN I think I'll start thinking about what I need to pack to head up to Ohio this week.  (It always takes me a while to get ready to go.)

So for now, I'm going out to the barn to collect up all of Arthur's "stuff" -- saddle and tack, feed, etc. -- to take over to Zoilo's with him.  I'm sure by the time THAT's done, I'll be dripping wet with sweat, so it'll be time to jump in the shower and clean up before heading out.  It is hot, hot, HOT down here already.  I think the summer is going to be something.  Time to think about a northern home again.  ;-D

And this picture is for no good reason.
I just like it.
