Lisa just gave me a call. Although it IS raining off and on down here in the city at the moment, she said it's not doing much out there by the house so she and Buddy are going to go ahead over and give Lizzie her bath this morning. Excellent!
I've been combing Lizzie for a while twice a day since those curry things arrived and she's looking MUCH better, but despite the fact that she is appearing to be a normal horse again finally, a huge cloud of dust still balloons up up every time you pat her because of all that dirt on her down at skin level! So once she's bathed and tidy and that dirt is gone, I'm going to put a fly sheet on her and see if it can keep her from putting another layer of dirt under that hair of hers so her skin won't get itchy again.
I got her two of those thin fly sheets so I could change them out and keep them clean. If that does seem to work, I'll probably get her another one or two -- just about everyone seems to have them on sale at the moment for less than $30, so I guess now is the time to stock up.
She's going to get locked in her stall after her bath today until she dries, but since it's supposed to rain off and on all weekend, that's probably a good thing since she would no doubt take advantage of the opportunity to go roll in the mud out in the pasture, given half a chance.
I really HOPE it doesn't rain all weekend because I've talked to a couple people about mules they have for sale and I'm planning to go see one out in Walker tomorrow, then one up in Jackson near Zachary on Sunday. Both of them are geldings, and both are very cheap, so I doubt that I'll be acquiring either of them, but I'm looking forward to actually meeting them.
This one actually looks like a pretty sweet boy:
He's not very tall - which made me wonder - but the ad said he has no problem carrying the husband who weighs 235 so I guess he could actually carry me as well, despite his smallish size. I LIKE that. If I had to get off out in the woods sometime, I could actually get back on! Excellent.
So anyway -- I hope it isn't pouring down rain Sunday so I'll have a chance to actually try riding him.
