The trip home from work today was awful. Almost two inches of rain came down during that short period of time. Frightening. By the time I got over to the River Road it was flooded! I was SO glad to be driving a truck. The water was clear up to the running boards for a good half mile! Almost everyone turned off and headed over toward Nicholson, but I figured I was already at the lowest point so what the heck, might as well keep going. I did eventually get home (obviously), but it did take a while. I felt bad this morning that I hadn't dropped Joey off at therapy, but tonight it was a serious relief not to have to pick him up! I just wanted to get home and out of that rain as soon as possible.
As for the horses, when I finally got home and went out to feed them, Duke was standing there on his "porch" totally immaculate and entirely dry. Even though he hadn't been locked inside his paddock today at all he obviously had stayed in his stall as he usually does when it rains. That's so good. Well . . . it might be a BIT of a problem if someone happened to be riding him when it began to thunder, of course, because if he's out when it starts to rain he FLIES back to his stall. But he does stay pristine that way. ;-D
Now Lizzie? She was completely, totally, absolutely SOAKED to the skin -- even though she WAS locked in her paddock. There was nowhere she could go, so apparently she just stood outside and let the rain pour over her. Gotta wonder how she thinks. EVERYTHING she has is inside -- her hay, her food, her water, lots of stall shavings so she can comfortably lay down if she likes. Even a window so she could hang out with Duke. But no. She stands outside -- even if it storms. Hopeless.
Luckily, I did hear on TV this morning that there might be intermittent storms today with high winds, so I stuck a spare shower curtain I had over the window side of the bed on the sleeping porch and set the dog bed on top to hold it in place. Darned good thing because there was a lot of water on it when I got home. There must have been some serious winds because even though there's a 2-foot overhang around the porch and it's completely screened, the rain still blew in and soaked the floor for a good two or three feet inside.
Guess I may have to put some sort of waterproof curtains up out there after all - at least around the bed. If a storm as short-lived as today's could get everything that wet, I hate to think about what a mess it would be during a regular all-day rain with high winds. Sigh. One more thing for "THE LIST."
Well, I better get to bed. I need to go in really early tomorrow if I can. Got a LOT of things that have to get done by Friday, and Joey has a dermatology recheck Friday at 11, so I'll be taking a long lunch. Better try and get all that stuff done tomorrow, "just in case."
