You know, this "mule thing" is turning out to be a bit more problematic than I thought it would be. Right now, all I want is to talk with SOMEONE who already owns a mule. Sounds simple enough, but so far I haven't been able to find a single soul who does. I started out trying to find someone locally so I could go meet their mule, as well as talk with them. But at this point I'd be glad to talk on the phone with anyone anywhere!
I've checked with my horse-owner friends, with our horse vet, with the "animal" people I know at the office. I put my notice on the bulletin board at the work, and of course I've talked about it here on my blog. I even posted requests for calls from "mule people" on both Facebook and Craigslist!
And if that doesn't work, I'll even resort to putting a note on the various equine sale sites (Horsetopia.com, Equine.com, etc.) But I really want to talk to someone who is NOT selling their mule for obvious reasons. I'm looking for some honest info. Even folks who are honest will probably NOT discuss any problems they have unless asked specifically if they're trying to get me to buy their baby.
From the things I've read online, I'm pretty sure I DO want one, but first I want to hear about it directly from an actual mule OWNER. Then -- if it still seems like a good idea -- I'll move on to the problem of actually finding one for sale!

| The more I read about them, the more I think a mule would be great fun! |
But I'm not going to look for one until I've had a chance to talk with some current mule owners.
So . . . ask around, folks. If you know ANYONE who might be willing to talk to me about the joys and trials of owning a mule, ask them to give me a call. My Google Voice number is 225-308-1245. (That rings on ALL my phones.)

http://www.muleday.com/ There may be something or someone on there who can help you. It might be worth a visit for you too. Good luck!
Thanks! That really looks like fun. But the darned thing takes place while Mark is offshore! Well -- maybe I'll be able to talk a friend into going up there with me.
Sure wish there were some "mule things" going on down here in Louisiana. You'd THINK there would be since mules do so much better than horses in high heat. But I sure haven't discovered any mule events at all around here so far.
There are usually a couple of walking mule classes at the Walking Horse shows here. You might want to check out some of those shows too.
