Mardi Gras 2012

Lots of friends from both Baton Rouge and New Orleans have been posting all sorts of interesting Mardi Gras pics on Facebook for the last week or so, but Jill - she and her then-boyfriend, now-husband Tony and their dogs stayed at our house during Katrina - posted a bunch of photos taken by a New Orleans photographer.

This is Jill and Tony

We never go down to Mardi Gras in New Orleans ourselves -- we're past the point where much of anything is worth dealing with that kind of crowd!  But it does look like all those younger folks are having a FINE time, doesn't it!

We DO sometimes go down down to the "Krewe of Mutts" parade here in Baton Rouge, sponsored by CAAWS (Capital Area Animal Welfare - the rescue group I used to work with back in the day).   Half the people who are there bring their own dogs so the crowds are not nearly as irritating as most parade crowds are, to me.  Each year there's a different theme, but most people dress their dogs in standard "mardi gras purple green and yellow" and let it go at that.

This guy looks like he's having a FINE time, doesn't he?

This guy - not so much.
Mark's sister, Vickie, dresses their Westies up for virtually EVERY holiday.  But this year's Mardi Gras picture was a hoot -- they look like they had REALLY been partying, don't they!

As for me, the picture below (taken after the parades were over down in New Orleans by one of the women who works with me here at our firm) is all too illustrative!

At the end of the evening (Tuesday night), the police - many of them on their horses - throw all those horrendous crowds out of the French Quarter and then guys come in and clean the place up.  By morning, it's back to looking just as it usually does.  Not immaculate, but WAY better than this!

Well, it's over for this year and we have a "regular" weekend in sight.  Mark says a package came in the mail so I'm hoping that's Lizzie's new bitless bridle that we can try out this weekend.

Life is good.
