We all sat around at the barn last night and talked for a while, then decided to go to the barn early this morning "before it gets too hot" and do a little work with our horses. Ha! When I opened the door to let the dogs out before 6 AM this morning the heat just hit me in the face! Wow! My glasses fogged up instantly and I couldn't see a darned thing. Couldn't see any point in heading over to the barn at dawn when it was already that hot standing there doing absolutely nothing. So I decided to just go back to bed. But Joey is nothing if not quick -- by the time I got back inside, he had raced past me and climbed back onto the bed himself, and flopped down right in my space.
Look at the boy. He was so careful not to look at me because he KNEW he was in my spot and he shouldn't be!
But once I got him to look me in the eye, he moved on over enough for me to climb back into bed then turned around and curled up next to me. What a sweetie.
So I didn't get over to the barn until around 8:30. Cleaned up Duke and let him stand around in the shade until he dried while I cleaned up Lizzie. Walked her around a while and she didn't appear to have any problems with her feet so I headed out to the round pen with her. Got Lori to climb on bareback first since she's a LOT lighter than me and Lizzie was still perfectly sound (although her hocks seemed a little stiff). Tried it myself then and she was still okay, so I went ahead and saddled her up. Unfortunately, I forgot that I had taken all the bridles home to clean them up so I decided to try riding her using a rope halter like Lori uses with Pops. Ha! Not a chance! She paid absolutely NO attention to me. Couldn't get her to do a darned thing. Ended up only riding for about five minutes since she wasn't paying the slightest attention to me. Call me picky, but I really prefer to call the shots myself, NOT Lizzie.
Lori spent a good while with Pops in the round pen and eventually got him to be pretty cooperative. But by then she was pretty warm herself!
Got home around noon and stood in a nice cool shower for a good half hour. It felt soooo good after what felt like a 3-hour sauna! Then I took a nice nap with Joey curled up next to me again. He is such a sweetheart. And he and Rocky are really getting to be pals. I've been keeping the two of them together, but separate from Niki and Ben when I'm gone because Joey is just too active and excited for those two old folks.

Nothing beats a little heat AND humidity! Not been so much hot here as it is humid, wish it would just go ahead and storm :)
