Today was a lovely day. We had a big barbeque to celebrate Mark's birthday AND the arrival of our newest family member, Joey! He is sooo cute. After we ate, Mona (who brought Joey to me all the way from Houston - ScoutsHonor.org), her nephew, my boss, his wife and I all piled into our cars and drove over to my boss's family preschool to introduce Joey to the rest of his new "pack." It worked GREAT! Sure wish I had taken my camera with me, but . . . I forgot.
When you arrive at the school, you drive in through two locked gates and park. Then Mona got Joey out of her car and took him through two more gates and turned him loose. Once he had a chance to run around and check things out in there, I got Rocky out of the car and turned him loose in the adjoining area until they discovered each other and checked each other out through the fence. No problem. So we opened the gate between the two spaces and let them get together. There was a little bit of stiffness and tension, but never any growling or anything. Excellent! So next we got Niki out - the one I was most concerned about, given her previous propensity for attacking Kate and Gracie. So what happened? Absolutely nothing! The two of them simply ignored each other. They STILL are. Difficult to understand, but hey -- better than fighting.
And in the end, once the intros were over, I simply piled all of them into my car and drove on home. Mona headed back to Houston from the school and John and Karen headed home. Everyone is still getting along just fine, although they aren't playing together or anything yet. I'm convinced that sooner or later they'll become attached to each other but "getting along" is good enough for now.
Joey has appropriated Gracie's old window seat, but Niki doesn't seem to mind.
