Tuesday noon

I haven't heard back from the Houston rescue group again about Joey, but I was mistaken about his foster mom's trip to New Orleans.  It isn't this weekend, but the following weekend, so I guess they have plenty of time.  Maybe she's waiting to contact the woman who's vacationing in Italy who is supposed to be the contact for his adoption.   I don't know.  Honestly, I feel like a mom waiting to adopt a human baby -- I just wish they would hurry up and make some definite arrangements!

Got up this morning and it was "only" 72 degrees but it's already back up to 90.  I heard one of the newscasters say that this month will set a heat record for May in Louisiana for the last, I think, 150 years!  IT IS HOT!   Mark says the water temperature in the Gulf last month was the highest ever recorded for April.  That is NOT a good thing for hurricane prognostication since the higher the temperature of the water in the Gulf the greater the increase in the strength of any hurricanes making their way toward Louisiana.  But let's not think about that until we have to.  Not a darned thing we can do about it anyway.  (Except finish the barn and put doors on the stalls, dear.  Ahem.)

I've been looking foward to May for the last six months while it rained constantly making the ground too wet to ride around here.  True -- now it's drying out, for sure -- but it's so hot neither I nor the horses can stand working out in it -- especially after having done virtually nothing all winter.  Wonder if there is SOMEWHERE in this country where the weather is decent for riding most of the time? ... without tornadoes ... without snow or ice storms ... without earthquakes ... without forest fires.  Hmm.  Maybe we should just stay where we are and try and get the place graded so they don't sink up to their knees in mud every time it rains for 40 days and 40 nights.

Mark will be home again tomorrow after only being gone a week this time.  Wonderful!  He will actually be home for my long weekend off -- something that hasn't happened for a long time.  That also means he will be home when Joey comes if that happens on June 4, which is excellent.

Got rid of all the old chew bones etc. after Gracie died last month and got the dogs a bunch of new toys. One of them is a REALLY loud squeeky ball covered in that heavy-duty nylon they make fire hoses out of with a bunch of streamers coming off of it. Niki has absolutely fallen in LOVE with the thing. She goes to sleep every night with it in her mouth and then every time she wakes up she bites down on it and makes enough noise to wake the dead! Then the other dogs jump up and start milling around and SHE goes back to sleep! Wonder if she thinks that's funny.

Once Mark gets home, I'm definitely going to have to try to remember to put it up before we go to bed. I don't think he would find all that noise amusing in the middle of the night!
