Our internet hook-up is fixed! Yeaaaaah! Good to be back online from home.
Worked Lizzie for a few minutes this afternoon, but although she wasn't actually limping, she just didn't look comfortable. So I put her back and got Ladybug out instead. Wasn't exactly looking forward to working Bug but - surprisingly - she did pretty well. Lori helped me figure out what I was doing wrong at certain points and by the time we quit she had begun to listen. In fact, SHE ACTUALLY HAD HER EARS UP! For her, that is nothing short of amazing. Here's how she usually looks when worked (almost like a cartoon horse, huh?). Once I walk up to her and start talking and touching her, she's actually very sweet. It's just that her first inclination in all situations is that something bad is going to happen. And she WILL charge if she decides that's the case --which is why I don't allow Rebecca to use her as a therapy horse EVER. Hate to have her stomp some kid.
If it's not raining, I'm going to spend a few minutes working with her again tomorrow and on Sunday morning. Then if all goes well, I'm hoping to be able to ride briefly on Sunday afternoon. We'll see.
I bought a couple rope halters online - one regular, one made of that very stiff rope that's a lot more "definite." Hope they show up tomorrow because after watching Lori ride Pops in his rope halter, I think I'd like to give that a shot. Using a rope halter instead of a bridle and bit would eliminate the possibility that the problems I have with Bug are related to an inappropriate bit, and might even help me figure out exactly where our problems ARE. Of course, given the info I've gotten from Lori about working Bug, my money is on ME as the source of our problems, but we'll see . . .
