What a weekend!

Mark's sister and her husband, natives of Louisiana, are now living up in College Park, Maryland.  As you have probably heard on the news, they've had about four FEET of snow over the last few days and more is coming!  Check out their pictures below, taken even before the full four feet fell.  (Our constant rain down here is looking better and better to me!)
It's a darned good thing I went up to Ohio when I did and not the following week since I changed planes in Baltimore.  (Not sure why that was, since it's usually Atlanta, but there you are.)   On second thought, that might have been fun IF I'd been able to get from the airport to Vickie and John's place!  On third thought, I think I'm relieved to be back in the South - especially since Mark had to go back to work  last week and we would have had a whole house (and barn) full of "orphan pets" if I'd been stranded in DC!
Not that the weather here has been perfect.  It stopped raining long enough for the Super Bowl -- of course it did, that victory and the accompanying celebration was apparently "meant to be" -- but we had 2 inches of rain only a day or two before the game, and we're due for more starting tonight.  It's hard to recognize the place any more.  Usually no matter what time of year it is, the whole state is green, green, GREEN.  Not now!  First that whole week of 20-degree temperatures killed off things that usually do not die.  Then the constant rain has turned the place into one giant mud hole.  (Shades of northern melting snow slush!)  Well . . . I've always said I really miss the changes of season in the north.  This is one year that spring should provide a serious change of season, even down here!
But put a sweater on and check out these photos of DC.  Brrrrrr!!
Last weekend was supposed to be the annual "Mardi Paws" puppy parade -- the DC equivalent of the CAAWS Mystic Crew of Mutts mardi gras parade here in Baton Rouge.  But not this year!
Those Westie statues are pretty much de rigueur for Vickie -- she's active in Westie rescue and they have three Westie's of their own.  There's Westie "stuff" everywhere at their place.
You can almost see the horrified thoughts going through this little guy's head at the idea of having to "go out" in snow 5 times taller than him!   Poor baby!
