What a night. Just after I passed the last gas station on my way home from work the gas light came on in my truck. There are no gas stations near the house but rather than turn around, I went on home then went to the barn and fed the horses, then headed back toward town to get gas and pick up some fried chicken for dinner. I pulled into the station and got out my purse only to find . . . no wallet. Oh, no! So there I was, 15 miles from the house -- the gas light had been on for about 40 miles now -- NO money, NO credit cards, NO phone (battery dead), and NO Mark to call for help if I HAD had a phone. Aaaahh!!!!
So -- I headed back to the house. What was I going to do?? I've never let the truck run completely out of gas to see how far it will go once the light comes on, but what choice did I have? I did make it back to the house. (Whew!)
Then I spent a good hour looking all over the house for my wallet. I even pulled all the empty plastic bags from my Walmart trip yesterday out of the trash and checked in them! I usually take only my wallet into the store, and sometimes I put it in one of the bags when I come out, so . . . but no wallet.
Finally I came across a new credit card that had come for Mark that he hadn't put in his wallet yet (thank goodness!). So I got in the truck and headed back downtown to get gas and then to check my desk at the office to see if I left my wallet there. At least the truck made it to the nearest gas station so I could use Mark's credit card to fill up. That was a good thing. One problem down. But when I got down there to the office -- the place is pretty creepy at night -- the wallet was still nowhere to be seen. Oh, no! I started thinking about all I would have to do --- cancel all the credit cards, get a new driver's license -- the whole nine yards. NOT a good night.
By this time it was almost 8:30. So I headed back to the house so I could pull up the document I have with all my credit card numbers and their contact numbers listed. I put the truck in the garage and went around to get out the containers I used to take hot water over to the barn to soak the beet pulp and . . . you guessed it. When I opened the passenger door my wallet fell out. It had somehow ended up down between the seat and the door. Sigh. I still have NO earthly idea why the thing should have been anywhere near the passenger door. But at least I don't have to cancel anything or get a new license so although my evening is shot, it could have been a lot worse, I guess. (What the heck am I going to do in another 10 or 15 years??? I'm going to need a keeper!)

As I was reading this, I was thinking of calling you to say "Look on the passenger side" since that's just what happened to me some time ago. As long as we don't open the refrigerator and find the iron in there, I think we're okay. C.
