All that water is FINALLY able to leave our yard. Here's that photo of how the water stood around when it rained BEFORE they did that new drain across the drive for us last weekend:
Then here's a photo taken after a huge rain storm all day today so far:
Those couple of small bits of water are just there because the ground hasn't been quite evenly laid out yet. And it really HAS been storming all day today. This photo was taken just after the rain went on by.
But here's what we had:
It has stopped raining on us so far (we're just south and slightly west of Baton rouge). We may well be getting more later in the day. But hey -- who cares . . . we can just stay home. (And the horses can just hang out on the porch at the barn -- they love that!)
Anyway, the yard really is MUCH better now. Here's a photo taken from upstairs:
There's still water sitting in there, but that's just because we need to lower the ground slightly just outside of our fence so the water can go on out into the canal out there. But currently it does go out when it's really really full, so no real problem.
And we are going to add brick with a bit of a screen on both sides of the driveway so that the pipe doesn't end up filled with leaves and grass etc. But the screens will be removable so we can clear the pipe out periodically. (And we will be able to do that BEFORE adding the screens too.)

This was taken before that ground was dug down a bit further. And it will look much nicer once we get that brick added around that drain pipe. |
Well -- time to kick back and do absolutely NOTHING for a while today. Love, love, LOVE retirement!!
