Long weekend coming up . . .

John Lopez, a sculptor from South Dakota, uses metal trash to build amazing sculptures.  Check out all those things on that web site.  But here are a couple I absolutely LOVE:

It's amazing how realistic they appear even though they're made from all kinds of weird things.  Wish he were down here in Louisiana!

Can you believe "Arthur" became a hurricane today?  Gees!  Hard to believe - he's such a sweetheart anymore.

It has been SO hot lately.  Poor Gigi has been spending half the day inside the house in a crate (so she won't eat the furniture and bedspread).   That's something new for her. You wouldn't think she'd be happy about that, but when I open the door she races in and throws herself down inside that crate where it's cool.  Whew!  It's been up in the high 90's -- feeling more like 100+ -- so I guess that does make perfect sense.

As for me, since I have the 3-day weekend this week with Mark gone, I'm going to try and clear out the house if I can.  We keep buying "stuff" to replace other things, but we haven't gotten most of the new stuff ready so we end up with all of it - new things AND old - in there.  NOT good.

What we really need is company.  That's the only thing that makes us tidy things up generally!  Wendy says she'll be down in September so maybe next month we'll be working really hard getting things back to "normal."   I hope.  With the horses, though, so many things need to get done outside so the house just hangs in there waiting for everything out there to be finished so the house can be cleared out.  And it hasn't happened yet!

Mark put up the electric fence across the front yard this week, so this weekend I plan to let the horses out there for the first time and see if they will just graze the grass and leave the Magnolia trees out there alone!  If they nibble on those trees we will have to put something around them to keep the horses away from them -- still another project!  But forget that for now -- if they eat those trees they just won't be allowed out there -- they will have to spend their time instead in the new round pen that's going to get put up when Mark comes home this next time.  (I'm really looking forward to that!!)
