Will we EVER get to adopt a new dog? . . .

Well, not yesterday.  But I'm pretty darned thankful about that!  I was extremely concerned that they might have a wreck if they tried to drive up yesterday morning as originally planned.  New Orleans wasn't quite freezing yet, but WE were!  And it was raining here, too.  Well, not rain - sleet!   In fact, it was SO freezing up here that the city was closing down all kinds of things - including all the bridges including the I-10 Mississippi River bridge!  So all those trucks that were trying to head West ended up pulled over onto the side of the highway waiting to make it across the river -- ALL DAY!  And a number of other roads were closed, too -- any that had bridges or that ran across swamps -- because they were getting extremely icy.  It's not like up north where they can send out salt trucks.  Down here they have no way of dealing with icy roads except by closing them!   Well, they do dump sand on some of them, but that's not nearly as effective as salt.

Lisa from Bulldog Rescue had started out with Bettie, but she ran into a road that was closed and she couldn't make it up here.  Poor thing wasted a couple hours picking up Bettie and starting up here, only to have to go back again and return her to her foster mom for now. Sigh.

Here's a map from the Department of Transportation showing road closures -- so many you can't even see where they actually are!

So, as for me, I'm actually glad I had already planned to take the day off, even without getting Bettie!  At least I didn't have to drive anywhere, thank goodness!

Glad the blankets I put on Duke and Arthur are waterproof because those two dummies stood out in the sleet all day instead of staying in their stalls.  Glad I had those on them!

As for the dogs, when they needed to go out and felt the sleet it took them only seconds to get ready to come back in!  VERY bright boys!

It's supposed to improve later today, but Tuesday night when Mark has to drive back to work there's a 20% chance this will happen AGAIN! . . . not good.  Hope he gets back down there to the coast okay.
