Well, we got that DISH Hopper installed today and the guy who did it for us was terrific. He not only got that installed, he also got our Cox Cable hooked into the DISH receiver for us! We used to have Cox on two TV's and DISH on two others. Now we have DISH on ALL of them and we can switch back and forth to Cox whenever we like. Nice. Now when there's a storm or something and DISH goes out of whack, we can just switch over to Cox Cable.
And now we can watch TV on our smart phones, too! And we can program recordings from our phones as well.
We SHOULD be able to do the same on our Kindles, as well, but for some reason the DISH software isn't downloading onto our Kindles. He said we need to call Cox to get help on that. But I'm putting that off for a while. We have plenty of other things to deal with at the moment!
For starters, he began moving all the stuff we had recorded on our old receiver onto that new 1 TB external hard drive that's going to be attached to the Hopper, but we discovered that it was going to take more than 11 hours to move all that stuff over! So instead of taking our old receiver with him as he normally would, it's still sitting here and all the recordings are still moving to the external hard drive. Then DISH is going to send us a box and an address label and we are going to mail that old receiver back to them next week.
Once all those recordings have been moved, we will hook that external hard drive up to the Hopper and then we'll not only be able to store more recordings on there, we'll be able to watch all that stuff on ANY of our TV's OR on our phones and Kindles! Love it! And if we ever have to upgrade the receiver yet again, we will NOT have to move the recorded programs the next time!
Internet things like FaceBook are also available on the TV now, as well. But I don't think it would make much sense to do that on the TV when we have all kinds of other things - phones, Kindles, laptops - we can use for that WHILE we're watching TV. Still -- interesting. So for the next few weeks I'm sure we'll be spending a lot of time looking into all the new stuff on there. Getting used to this kind of thing really IS stressful, but we're still pretty darned happy with it. And that nice guy who installed everything gave us his personal phone number and said if we have trouble with anything we can give him a call and he'll come by the next time he's in this area and help us. So I guess it will all work out fine in the end.
Okay - time for bed. Tomorrow the horses get groomed, the barn gets painted some more and THEN we get to go eat over at Roberto's with Jan and Mike. Gonna be a great weekend!
