Heading out --

Mark, that is -- They started back to work by boat Tuesday night as they normally would, but the captain turned around and went back to shore since the waves in the Gulf were so horrendous the boat couldn't travel safely.  Then Hercules put them back on the boat for a second time yesterday, but . . . same deal -- they only got within about 45 miles of the rig before the boat captain turned around again and headed back to the dock.  Still SUPER high seas.  But they're heading out for a third time this morning and they're actually likely to make it!  I'm sure the OTHER crew is thrilled to hear that --  they've been stuck out there on the rig now for the same 2 1/2 days that Mark's crew has been sitting around (and being paid to "work") at a hotel down near the dock.  Poor guys.

If Mark had been stuck on the rig instead of delayed getting back to work, I know we'd both be COMPLETELY bent out of shape about it.  Even though they get paid time and a half for extra work time, by the end of two weeks everyone out there on the rig is MORE than ready to go home, no matter HOW much money they want to pay you to stay!

But the wind has calmed and the weather here in BR is gorgeous today!  Turned the horses back out after breakfast this morning and they were all tickled pink.  (One of these days we really need to get all those trees back there in the pasture topped so I can stop worrying about them getting smushed by a fallen tree when the winds top 30 mph!  And I know they'd all be glad to stop getting locked in all the time.)

Haven't actually SEEN David, but he's back in BR and has put in the replacement wood in the big opening between the living room and dining room, and replaced the bit of wood that's been missing for 10 years now at the bottom of our stairs!  Presumably he will stain it all shortly to match the rest of the living room wood floor.  Then he still needs to finish building those drawers in the kitchen, but then he can get on with building dutch doors for the 5 stall doors.  I REALLY hope he can get those done before he leaves town in another two weeks!  That way we won't have to be nailing up plywood over their stall doors when a hurricane comes through this year.  We can just easily close their doors.  Lovely!

As for the kitchen counter, I've decided to have marble or quartz or granite or some such thing installed so David won't need to do that.  Better to have him building stall doors.  We've put off replacing the kitchen counter for 10 years now -- guess it can wait until I find someone else to deal with it!  Maybe I'll go out tomorrow morning and visit some of those granite/marble dealers out off Choctaw and see what they're going to charge.  (Gulp.)  I thought of going through Lowes or Home Depot, but I think it's probably going to be a lot cheaper to just hire someone directly.  We'll see.

Okay - back to work.  It's just me here today - Julie and her husband bought a camper last week so she took today off and they've headed out on a first camping trip in the new camper.  Sounds great!  Anyway, I'm going to work straight through lunch today, then head out around 2 for a haircut, then go home to clean out the stalls.   They always get gloppy when they're locked in their paddocks.  I'd THINK they could walk outside when they have to go, but no . . . except for Duke, they poop in their stalls instead.  (Maybe they're trying to get even with me for locking them in.  Hmmmm.)  Anyway, I'll get it all tidied up today, then I can kick back and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
