No, I did not make a New Years resolution not to post to my blog. It's just happened that way for some reason! Nothing in particular is different for us. Well . . . maybe that's not exactly the case. It IS awfully wet out there these days! But it didn't flood completely and the horses haven't decided to resign and go live out west, as far as we know. So ultimately, I have absolutely NO excuse for not blogging lately.
So - let's see what's been going on. Okay - for starters, after Vickie and John and their bad-boy Westie, Sundance, left after Christmas, we began letting Joey out into the rest of the house. Up until then, we had let the other dogs into the bedroom and out into the yard with him, but we did not let Joey out anywhere inside the house except the bedroom and bathroom because he was SO awful about chewing on things. But his response has been far better than we expected. When he first comes out he FLIES all over the place and always checks Boo's bowl out in the kitchen to be sure there's no leftover dog food out there. But then within a very few minutes, he calms down and comes into the living room and climbs up onto a folded-up comforter on the living room sofa and just stretches out and goes to sleep! Hey - he gets to hang out wherever he likes as long as he does no damage. So far, so good.
We also tried to figure out a way to protect the cats and their bed on the back porch from rain when there's a high wind blowing it in. What we finally did was put up 6 cheap little shower curtains and run a longe line across them to keep them from blowing aside and letting the rain in. It's worked so far -- although the wind hasn't been all that horrendous at this point.
And of course Mark and I have had to spend a lot of time caring for the horses since it's been raining cats and dogs. When that happens, we keep them locked inside their paddocks so that the pasture grass doesn't get stomped down completely and killed. But their paddocks are entire muddy messes presently . . . the first time it's been that bad.
In truth, though, when Mark is home, he does almost all of the feeding and stall cleaning so that I get a "vacation" since I obviously have to do it all myself when he's offshore. Unfortunately, it's going to continue to rain until next weekend, so it's not going to be fun to deal with things out there after he heads back out to the rig tomorrow evening for the next two weeks!
It's been even more difficult lately because Buddy and Lisa haven't been able to come by and deal with keeping the paddocks tidy because Lisa has been having medical problems. And of course, Jerry will have NO part of that. As I think I mentioned before, the last time we asked him to clean up horse poo we didn't see him again for two solid years!!
And for that matter, David hasn't been around to deal with home renovation projects since before Christmas either, except for one day. I think he has the flu. Hope it's not as serious for him as it is for some folks! Usually it's only a crisis for us old folks, not young strong guys like David. Hmmm.
Oh - and we were getting ready to go visit Jan and Mike on Saturday, but we found out Jan's dad fell early Saturday morning and broke his hip. He's 94 years old and was supposed to have surgery on Sunday but I haven't heard how things are going with him. Sure hope he's okay. Jan, of course, is up there with her Mom and Dad in Mississippi.
So that's about it at the moment. You definitely haven't missed much, have you?
Hope everyone else is doing well. Wish I would hear from everyone. (Ahem!)
