About out of momey . . .

and we haven't even BEGUN Christmas shopping yet!

It's been one of those weeks.  First of all, when David or his electrician or whoever sawed the hole in the back splash for the disposal switch last week, whoever it was didn't bother to move any of the things on the counter, so they were all covered with dust.  I cleaned most of them up with no problem, but the toaster smelled VERY strange every time it was used after that, so I went online to Amazon (where I buy virtually everything we need) to order a new toaster.  And while I was there, I just happened to see a very cool coffee maker with an insulated pot that was the same bright metallic red as our electric tea kettle, so . . . yep, I ordered both of them!

I'll tell you what - that toaster is great!  Haven't tried the coffee pot yet but it sure LOOKS cute.
That white switch is the new one where all the dust came from in the old toaster.
(It sure will be good to have a "real" countertop instead of that fake cutting block formica.)

Then Mark and I have talked for a while about how we need a different freezer since we never have any idea what the heck is in there unless it's on top.  So I came across a very nice LARGE (20.5 cu ft) stainless color upright freezer for a very reasonable price this week.  So I ordered that, as well.  It'll be here the first of the week.

While I was checking some places in town to see if that was the best price for a big freezer, I came across a close-out on a nice large (4.2 cu ft) wall oven!  Since one of our double ovens hasn't worked for a year or more, and since they're so narrow that you can't even put a standard cookie sheet in there, I just HAD to buy that, too.

What we're going to do is take out the narrow (24" wide) double wall ovens we have now and extend the counter all the way across the end of the kitchen.

(All that junk sitting there next to the ovens is stuff for various projects going on at the moment --
oh, and some cleaning stuff that I just hadn't put away.  Sigh.)
We never use those small cabinets above and below the old ovens for anything, so we plan to remove all those cabinets and below the new counter, we plan to put in two foot-deep drawers for the bowls and pots that are in the pull-out shelf below our cook top now.  That's where we will install that MUCH wider new oven - below the cook top.   (That's why I don't care if the new one is black instead of stainless.  You can't see it over there anyway.)

Then above that new counter, between that existing upper cabinet on the left side of the window and the side wall, we'll put two open shelves painted to match the cabinets.  Then I want to put the microwave up there on one of the shelves.  And I'm sure we'll be able to find something for on the other shelf that's attractive enough to be seen.  So we will essentially gain not just the 2 feet of counter where the ovens are now, but another 2 feet of counter that our really big microwave takes up at the moment.

So our next huge problem, then, will be what kind of new countertop and back splash to put in.  We've been putting that off for years now, but when we extend that countertop we'll be forced to do SOMETHING.

Oh - and just to top things off for the week, I got 12 new cross-tie rings.  When I ordered some horse supplements this week from SmartPak, they had them on sale super-cheap -- 12 of them for just $14.99.  And they are huge!  I don't think any of our guys will be able to pull away from those things.

What I want to do is put a set in one door of each of the stalls so I can cross-tie them there while they're being groomed in a nice convenient place and so they can stand there and look out the door instead of being tied up in the corner inside the stall.  Because the stall doors are 4 feet wide, we can use trailer ties to cross-tie them. Should work well, I think.

I'm still trying to track down the guy who poured our patio in back to do some concrete around the barn and to pour the walkway from the house out to the barn, so that'll be still MORE money . . .

Oh! . . . and a guy is coming on Monday to clean all of the rugs in our house and that yellow love seat that Boo was sleeping on back when he was able to run up and down the stairs.  Now that we have a gate keeping him downstairs, we can clean that thing up again and it should STAY that way.

I sure hope we soon reach a point where we don't need anything else -- preferably BEFORE we run completely out of cash!
