Great day . . .

Buddy and Lisa came for an extra day today to spread out that sand we got delivered Tuesday.  Sure glad they did -- it wasn't supposed to rain until Sunday according to the weather guy when the sand was delivered.  NOW, though, they're saying it's supposed to rain tonight or tomorrow afternoon.  Well, we're ready now.  We got about half what we THOUGHT we needed.  Whew!  Glad we decided to do a little at a time because look at this . . . there's so much sand that those paddocks looks like beaches!

There's Lizzie outside the paddock fence pretending she's not disconcerted by the sand.

And of course, the moment the sand was spread in those paddocks, Duke HAD to come settle himself in again.

Lisa said he came up and rolled in the sand when they first spread it, but then he headed back out to graze for the day.  But this evening, once it was finished, he came back in and took up a position looking out the door of his stall as though he was absolutely fascinated with the new view!

Lizzie, on the other hand, followed Duke when he came up from the back pasture, but when she got to that gate where the tinest bit of sand had been added, she came to a sudden stop and just stood there for a good half hour, acting as if that sand were a giant "no trespassing" sign or something!  She stared in at Duke, and he stared out at her and nobody moved.

I was beginning to wonder if I was going to have to go out and work with her to get her to come in through the sand, but by the time I got their dinners ready, she had gone around and come inside through HER gate (no sand under that gate) and on into her stall to eat - sand or no sand.
Inevitably Duke finishes his dinner FAST, then comes over to the inside gate and stands looking over at Lizzie.

It still makes her a BIT nervous, but she's come to realize that he can't actually get to her so she no longer leaves her stall when he does that.

But he stands there and tries to harrass her.  Unlike Ladybug, though, Lizzie doesn't respond.

I just said something to him here and he looked over at me like "WHAT??  Did you bring me a cookie??"  (I did.)
