Finally got away from work today about quarter after 2 - much later than I planned. I wanted to get home by the time Buddy and Lisa got done with the barn and pasture. But even that late was pretty much okay today since they didn't get here as early as usual. Their poor little Chihuahua was attacked by a neighbor's boxer. Poor baby. Her son took the poor little thing to the vet, but it didn't survive. Lisa got a call from him mid-afternoon to tell her the dog had died and of course she was devastated. I can't believe they didn't just decide to leave, but she said it would be worse to be at home with nothing to do but think about it, so she stayed the rest of the afternoon and helped me with everything.
We moved all the furniture around in the living room. I had it set up before so that there were just two seats in front of the TV and that big sectional sofa was over in front of the fireplace instead. Now? . . . EVERYTHING is in front of the TV and only the desk is over by the fireplace because given a choice this month I think everyone is going to choose to look at the TV and not the fire. (Hey - it's been in the upper 70's lately so . . . WHAT fire?)
It doesn't LOOK all that great, but everyone who's here for the holidays will be able to sit together in either the living room OR the dining room. That should be good.
I finally got around to feeding the dogs just a few minutes ago. Poor Joey. He's had NO attention all afternoon. I didn't even take the time to help him cover up with his "blankie." He did the best he could to cover himself up, but he wasn't all that effective, was he? (And he obviously doesn't feel secure enough to actually be sleeping.)
He may LOOK comfortable above, but below is how he REALLY sleeps:
Each evening I ask if he wants his blanket and he RACES over to his bed and I cover him up except his head, and then he wiggles around and gets his head underneath the cover as well and he's out for the night.
First thing tomorrow morning (well, second thing -- right after I feed the horses) Boo is going to the groomer so that for at least a week he won't be shedding all over the place. Then on the way back I'm going to stop at the feed store for horse feed and hope I make it home without getting stuck anywhere!
Check out these pictures I took while trying to get out of the mall when I went over there to buy some dog food LAST weekend (and this weekend is probably worse, given how near we are to Christmas).
And this is also still inside the mall -- taken a good 45 minutes later than the one above! Darned good thing I had a book on CD to listen to or I might have been DANGEROUS by that point! |
Hmm. Just thinking about last weekend makes me wish I didn't even have to leave the house for ANY reason. But hey - I have to go to the grocery anyway. I cleaned out the refrigerator today and it is virtually empty at this point. (Most of the stuff in there had an expiration date at LEAST six months ago!! Definitely time for some refills.)
Okay, time to hit the sack so I can get up early - just like I do when I go to work. Guess my weekend won't really begin until Vickie and John come in tomorrow afternoon. Then we'll all sit around and relax! Sigh.
