This day is NOT going well. For starters, when I walked Joey out of the garage to go to the bathroom before putting him in the truck to take him to therapy this morning, he tripped me and I crashed into a puddle in the middle of the driveway. Muddied up my nice pale green corduroy pants and soaked my jacket. Had to go in and change clothes and ended leaving my cell phone in the pocket of that wet jacket so I have no phone today. BAD feeling.
And THEN, when I got to work, I found that the source of the data I use for drafting ALL my documents is no longer working correctly. The data is all in a program called Multi Block Storage. It contains the data for every application filed over the last five years! That's just a small part of the data list shown below. And each one of those files in the list below contains dozens of bits of information like the patent application serial number, title, filing date, priority applications, inventor names, home addresses, citizenships, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, etc. etc. etc. A LOT of info usually at my finger tips. So what does it mean if the program doesn't work? It means I have to get up and go get the actual FILE out of the file room in order to get the info to complete the new documents. Grrrrrr. After five years or more of NOT having to do that, I am completely spoiled!
The program was created by a Russian guy named Igor Vershynin. I've e-mailed him a lengthy explanation of what it's doing and NOT doing and I am praying that he will be able to figure it out SOON because none of our IT people seem to have a clue. (Actually, since I'm the only person in the firm who uses that program, they probably aren't all that interested -- they have plenty of other people to help with all kinds of things since all the software in the entire firm has been updated to new versions on all our brand new computers! So I can't really blame them for not wanting to deal with some oddball program . . . BUT I NEED IT!!!)
And although Mark is on his way home finally, he's not having much of a day himself. They woke him up before 2 AM on the rig to tell him that "the boat will be here in an hour or so" but they didn't actually get off the rig until after 4 AM so he got next to NO sleep last night and he is NOT cheery this morning. And since his sister and her husband are at the house, he no doubt won't get to go to sleep right away when he gets home, either.
Oh well -- tomorrow is another day. And I get off work at noon tomorrow and don't have to go back for a week. Excellent timing! And if I don't feel a LOT better by next week, I'll have another month of vacation available after January 1. Something to look forward to!
