Buddy and Lisa came by again Saturday. I so look forward to their visits. I hope they continue to come after I get back to more-or-less normal because just having them here makes me want to do things I never get around to doing otherwise!
Today they cleaned all our windows, inside and out, of all things! I had no idea to begin with that they did that, but then I found out they go do the windows on a huge modern plantation house that's all glass regularly - way harder than doing ours for sure!
Barn view from upstairs now -- PERFECT! (WHAT glass???) |
And they not only cleaned the windows, but Buddy got all those screens off that I've wanted to get rid of for the entire time we've lived in this house! Now when you look out any of the windows it's like you're actually outside. You can't even tell there IS a window. It's absolutely wonderful!
Once all that was done (and it took a WHILE -- I don't think those windows have actually been cleaned except with a hose since we bought the place), they rode the horses again.
Buddy rode Ladybug for a good while - actually had her working |
And she SWEATED again. I am so glad she seems to be recovering from the anhidrosis. Don't know why. Don't care. Just glad it seems to be going away. |
And Lisa rode Duke the whole time. He was generally pretty well behaved, too.
Lisa on Duke - what a sweet boy. |
Well, generally. Except when he got close to a tree, that is. Yesterday he kept trying to go over and eat them! Don't know what it is with him. He wants to eat absolutely everything he can get his mouth on these days! And it's NOT like he's starving. HE IS FAT! Hmm. Maybe he's more "our" horse than just owning him! Maybe he's actually related somehow!
And speaking of eating! . . . Buddy brought me some yogurt and some cheese that he made over at Chef John Folse's place (he works at the Bittersweet Dairy - click on the "products" buttons on that page and Folse will tell you all about them). Wow! That is the best stuff I've eaten in ages! I was amazed. He told me when he brought the yogurt in (5 of them) to be careful - that unlike regular yogurt, it has a short shelf-life because there are absolutely NO preservatives or anything in there. Ha! That stuff is going to be gone by tomorrow - trust me! I can't stay away from it! It is wonderful. It's available at Whole Foods and some other groceries, of course, but I probably never would have tried it because it is so much more expensive than regular yogurt. But believe me, that is no longer the case. I'm going to be tempted to buy a lot of stuff from Chef Folse now, having discovered just how excellent it actually is. And not just the taste, but the type of preparation. If you live down here and haven't tried it - DO. I promise, you will love it!

Are you giving the horses minerals and salt? Or, if it isn't something missing in his diet, maybe he is bored. I had a horse once that was not content unless he had a ball to chase (and stomp and bite and sit on). I hope this helps.
Hey - great idea! I think I WILL get him one of those balls. He probably IS bored -- there are no horses here for him to compete with (the girls acknowledge him as their boss with no argument) and he doesn't get ridden very often. But after Buddy and Lisa come ride, he behaves himself for a while so that probably IS the problem. Now -- I wonder where you get those balls? . . .
