The good news is my 3-day weekend begins at 3 this afternoon. Just got a note that we're getting off early today! I was also happy to hear that "birthday Friday" (usually at 3 PM on the first Friday of every month) will not be cancelled as a result, but will be moved up to 2 PM. Great! Looking forward to this month's special cakes! (I'll be 67 this month -- that part's not so great. But I've learned to ignore the specifics and just celebrate that fact that I'm alive and HAPPY!) One interesting thing is that our secretary and I have the same birthdays! Of course, she's a generation younger than I am (a year younger than Wendy, to be exact!) but still, it's interesting that we have the same birthdate. Gotta wonder what my favorite astrologer, Lynn Wilson, would have to say about that?? I used to visit with her fairly regularly, but she got so expensive eventually that I quit going because for me, astrology was just a fun thing, pretty much. But I have to say - Lynn was generally RIGHT on track. I recall discovering before I visited her the first time that she had written a master's thesis in which she compared the astrological info from a number of individuals to test results of some kind - can't remember offhand which test it was -- Meyer-Briggs, or the MMPI, I think -- one of the common tests for measuring introversion/extroversion at the time. Anyway, I was impressed back then with the fact that even as an astrologer, she did things very scientifically.
Of course this was a good 15 years or more ago. She was still living in the Garden District in New Orleans then. She's since moved up to Nashville and become SO much more popular that I couldn't begin to afford her now!
Okay. I digress.

The bad news today is, there's a tropical depression (soon to be named "Lee") about to come ashore and provide a deluge of 10" to 20" of rain over south Louisiana this weekend! Good grief!
I ordered stall guards for each of the exterior stall doors a while back, but we hadn't ever gotten around to putting the screw eyes for them on the exterior stall door frames.
Mark is going to do that this afternoon so that when the worst of the storm comes through (40-60 mph winds predicted) we can confine the horses to their stalls since there ARE trees along the side of two of the paddocks that COULD blow down.
Mark and I talked about it yesterday and decided that since our three horses have gotten along so well since they've been here at home together, we're going to move the HayHut inside their paddock area and revise the fencing between their paddocks so that they can be opened up and the three of them can share all the paddock space over the winter when the big pasture gets too soaked for grazing. They do love to hang out together and I hate to keep them separated just because the ground is too wet out there in the back.
We built the barn where it is because that area is the highest ground on the property and has never ended up underwater no matter how bad the flooding to date. Plus we raised the floor of the barn an additional foot so I'm sure the stalls will remain dry no matter what. But by putting the HayHut inside their paddocks and opening the paddocks up to each other, they will able to go out and wander around the paddocks and eat out of the HayHut together. I'm sure they'll be happy about that.
And speaking about happy -- Joey got to start back to therapy again this morning. He was THRILLED. He couldn't WAIT to climb into the truck and head out. It will be interesting to hear what Jennifer has to say about how he does. This knee surgery seems to have regressed him back to the point where he was after the hip surgery he had just before we adopted him. He was only using 3 legs most of the time then, as well.
On the plus side, it was necessary for me to help him stand up after the surgery by running a lead under his hips and walking alongside him when I took him out to the bathroom. But now finally I can just put him on a longish leash and stand in the door of the porch while he goes out by himself - so I WON'T have to stand out in the rain with him this weekend! Excellent!
