And it actually FEELS like autumn - my very favorite time of year!
Talked to "Lisa," the wife of that couple who may be helping us outside, and they will be coming by tomorrow. She sounded very nice. In fact, she wanted to come by this evening, but I said "no" to that -- no way I want to spend any more time than absolutely necessary outside during "mosquito hours" !!
My arms are absolutely COVERED with mosquito bites already, and I must not be the only one. I got a recorded phone call from the parish last night explaining that there would be airplanes spraying for mosquitos in our area beginning today and finishing up by Sunday. Ordinarily, the parish sprays for mosquitos from trucks that just drive slowly down the roads around here. If they're going to use airplanes and spray EVERYWHERE, there must have been a major mosquito population explosion all over the parish.
Wonder how far mosquitos fly from their point of origin? We are within just a couple miles as the crow flies (or the mosquito??) from Spanish Lake - a HUGE swamp area that I'm sure is permanently infested with mosquitos. You think it's possible that those bugs could come this far? But it's probably more likely that they're just breeding in places like Bayou Manchac and Bayou Paul -- not to mention all those small, ordinary stagnant water places like dog bowls and flower pots etc. -- rather than Spanish Lake.
Well, whatever the source, I hope all that spraying this weekend by those "crop duster" planes does the job. (And so do the horses, I'm sure.)
