And we continue to wait . . .

There haven't been any real hurricane-force winds at all so far, but the winds are strong enough that I'm glad the horses are inside the barn. (See the water blowing over the top of the roof in the photo below.  Pretty strong wind!)
When the storm racks up, Duke and Lizzie go all the way inside their stalls.  When the rain slacks off, they stand with their heads out the door, apparently deciding if it's worth it to go out.  So far their decision has been "no way."
In fact, it looks to me like Duke is pretty much sleeping rather than actually paying attention to the storm.

But check out the back pasture today below.  Believe me, compared to those earlier storms where the entire back turned into one huge lake, it looks really great this time around.  We had the whole back re-graded last year and this is the first major test.  Looks like a winner to me!   The whole property drains into that pond that then runs over into that drainage canal that runs down the side of the property.  And that's exactly what's happening.  There is what appears to be a small stream that runs across the property and into that pond, and then another small stream goes out of the pond and into the canal (you can't see that for that oak tree in the foreground below, but it IS working just as planned).

I managed to take Joey out to the bathroom between rain bands and then I put the bed he's always slept in inside his new crate.  He loves having his bed back at last!   He's been happily curled up in there all day.  Storm?  What storm?

Boo, on the other hand, while he's not exactly "storm phobic" like some dogs we've had, does generally place himself somewhere as far away from any windows or doors as possible.  And given the opportunity, he likes to lay between the two of us.  Nice and safe.  Very perceptive of him.

Okay - so that table is pretty cluttered.  But we're happy to have all that reading material handy today.  It IS a holiday weekend, right?
The power keeps going out and coming back on.  The generator takes over, but that power gap still turns my computer off each time.  SO annoying.  But at least I manage to reboot each time so I'm never completely out of contact.  That's reassuring.  And Mark made a really nice bean/ham/corn/rice "soup" (??).  Not sure if that would be called a soup or what, but it was EXCELLENT.   And there's one more day off.  Nice weekend - storm or no storm.
